Iron Crown Enterprises Announcement

To all in the ICE family

It is with the greatest sadness that we must inform you that the incomparable Terry Amthor has died. We extend our most heartfelt condolences to his sister Tamara, his family and his friends.

The cause and circumstances of his death are still under investigation, so we cannot provide any details on this and will defer to his family on what they choose to disclose in due course.

Terry was a founder member of the original ICE and a cocreator of Rolemaster and Spacemaster, writing and contributing to many of its most iconic products, and to some of the most exceptional 1st edition Middle-earth modules. Most of all, he has shaped our imaginations with his masterful Shadow World epic fantasy setting. He continued to develop Kulthea through his own Eidolon Studio company, before joining forces with Guild Companion Publications to create new sourcebooks and adventures bringing ever more of Shadow World to life, and working as our layout guru for most of our other products.

Author, designer, world builder, and friend, Terry’s genius has enriched our lives for decades. His creations will continue to inspire us all for years to come.

Rest in peace, Terry.

Nicholas, Colin, John and Thom

I’m just stunned…lve been living in Shadow World for decades, have brought my wife and kids into it. We’ve lived out our best and worst times there.
To his friends and family, l am truly sorry for your loss.

I graduated in ’89 with no clear picture of what I wanted to do. Terry gave me one of the greatest gifts that you can give someone, and that is the gift of a job. Little did I know that I would launch a career off the skills that I was able to pick up in the year and a half that I worked with Terry and ICE. Thank you Terry for the opportunities and the friendship. You will be missed.

Terry was the first editor to give me a job in the industry. A bright & kind spirit with boundless imagination, he was always supportive and playful…
I’m going to miss him. RIP, my friend.

    Horrific news 🙁
We have played Shadow World since 1992 and still plays regularly.
He was such a engaged creator we were always looking forward to his next writings.
    He will truly be missed.
We are truly sorry for his family and close friends.
This makes me think of a quote by J. Michael Straczynski (G’kar from Babylon5): “I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in the station when it is quiet, and just listen. After a while, you will hear the echoes of all our conversations, every thought and word we’ve exchanged. Long after we are gone, our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit that the part of me that is going will very much miss the part of you that is staying.”

Shadow World (‘the World of Loremaster’) was the fantasy setting that I grew up with as a gamer. I’ve had so many adventures and mishaps and experiences in the world that TKA created, and I was happy that he got to take off on his own and expand it further under the Eidolon Studio banner. Rest in peace mr. Amthor, you will be missed.

I cannot adequately express my feelings of loss at this time, and I know it is far worse for Terry’s family and closest friends.

Shadow World has always been, in my opinion, by far the pinnacle of the truly epic fantasy roleplaying settings, and to think that the RPG world has been deprived of such an incredibly talented visionary is heartbreaking beyond measure.

Rest in peace, Terry. You shall forever live on in the wonderful works you gave to us all.

The Fantasy RPG Realm has lost a true genius. Bought Iron Wind in 1980 and never looked back. Thoughts for his family and the ICE family..

Rolemaster was the first fantasy system I used to play with.I have good memories of “the court of Ardor”, this somewhat atypical but so refreshing MERP module. RIP Terry.
