Topic: IYO Which Realm is has better Pure Spell Users?

 IYO if you had 20 PC's of various levels in your game which would fair the best? 20 Pure Channeling, 20 Pure Essence or 20 Pure Mentalism Casters?

Mentalists can get away with more. (if cunning)
Channeling users are generaly accepted by the peasants if played well.
Essence users are kinda thump wizzards.  (yes the Z's are on purpose)

Fare the best at what? From this series of powergaming style posers, I'm guessing you're thinking combat, but even if so, it still depends on the parameters of the combat. And are they supposed to be "typical" examples of their type or optimized for combat?

Of course! If essence have had a healing list, that would be my choice, no doubt. As essence does not have one, I guess arcane has the greatest variety of spells and possibilities. Then again, one may do a lot with talents, skills, TPs etc. I've no doubt played the magician the most - thump wizzards indeed

 Actually I was referring to your own gaming style not anyone else's game. They are supposed to be typical PC's for your game world.

I'd say Essence, followed closely by Channelers...Mentalism users would be (almost) as good...

Essence seems to have the most combat spells, channelling the healing/protection and mentalism the personal spells...personal helps, but doesn't do it in a group environment (which is most of my games)...

In the past I have mostly played fighters with talents that allowed them to be more than just fighters. (I.e., some stealth and minor mentalism spell-casting - in the arena of level 1-3 spells).

Right now I want to play a high-level Armsman pretty-badly. (And take him against the dark forces in the new nation of Ardania on the east coast of Emer in Shadow World.)

I've had more luck with Essence spell users. Maybe it's just the way i play...don't know really. The question is too much general

With the amazing Channeling Companion, Channelers win hands down.

Without, I like essnce users (Runemages!!!).  The lore spells with good subterfuge and attack abilities.  SO playable.

When I play mentalist, I like the Lay Healer.  Very versatile.  However, I like mentalist in an urban setting.

IMO Channeling, expecially using the Companions.

For sheer versatility, I would say the Mentalist.  They can wear armor and use weapons, or learn the martial arts and adrenal defense.  Also, their battlefield communications skills are without equal.

I say essence, because its versatility, but it requires a player that know how to use it wisely and perfectly, going by brute force is not good really, but if you know the exact spell at the exact momment, essence is simply incredible and very enjoyable to play.

For that, if you allow talents, do the same than me, select the "arcane" talent and learn "arcane healing", I selected it at level 0 so I selected "arcane healing" as one of my base lists (as you can select up to 4 in open or closed lists as base). I see no problem as arcane is really a mix of the three realms, then spell users can learn some arcane lists with talents, as you have enough knowledge of arcane (1/3) to do that IMO.

I played several Essence users, and I must say I find them to be very powerful at levels 10+.

At the moment I am playing a pure Essence spell user, level 19, and he can handle pretty much anything.
