Profession Too Powerful???
« on: April 10, 2009, 09:59:47 AM »
Paladin of Vult (Profession = Nightstalker)

Paladin for purposes of training packages and skill acquisition.

Exceptions:

Influence: 2/6 instead of 1/5

Outdoor Environmental: 1/5 instead of 2/6

Everyman: Lore-undead instead of jousting

Base Spell Lists

Paladin:  Inspiring Ways
Priest:  Holy Defenses
Priest:  Holy Symbol
Priest:  Holy Wrath
Priest:  Spiritual Vision
Priest:  The Hunter

Did I "munchkin" this profession?

Input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob

Imho it's not more unbalanced than the paladin itself  ;)
I suppose a magician might, he admitted, but a gentleman never could.

And the paladin is not unbalanced, only better balanced than most !
Now there's a plan : we go there, we blast him, we come back...
Fighters forever !

I'd like them to be "balanced" (whatever that means specifically) with the other professions for starters.  Ideas on tweaking?

Looks good to me.  Spell development always slows down semi spell users, especially at low levels.  Ceratinly, this Paladins faith is centered around a common enemy: The Undead.  You might want to restrict Holy Wrath to usable against undead only.  Possibly The Hunter too.  This is not to say those spells WON'T work against non undead, but that the tenents of the faith demand the power only be weilded against undead.  Should create some interesting temptations for our rightious paladin.

Besides, I have yet to meet a profession immune to criticals.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

IMO no it is not and I had a player pick almost the same build in a game I ran. He received the hunter spell list from a TP as well as focusing on undead as it was a fairly big part of the setting I was running.
I was also thinking of providing him the ability to heal soul damage by a talent instead healing soul damage by a spell list. We never got to a good point in the game that he had a chance to go learn this "talent" and we switched games a few months later and did not get back to it. Also I use my old talent costs and I am very stingy on pricing so the DP cost would also be high.

I considered throwing out the occupational skill of lore-religion and replacing it with normal skill progression for Cleansing Trance instead of restricted.  The Training Package you speak of (Protector, I think) is a requirement for these Night Stalkers.

Thanks for the feedback.  Oh yeah...The Holy Wrath and The Hunter spells are useable as written, but when used against "non-enemies" the power points used are regenerated at the rate of 1 per day (considered 1 per week as Vult's way of reminding the offending follower where he needs to be doing his fighting).

The name of the profession you have picked reminds me of one in the Shades of Darkness, I will have to peak at the product later to see if the name is the same.
