Official Privateers miniature solution...
« on: December 07, 2011, 03:23:28 PM »
I'm attending Winter War 2012 and I'm slated to run at least one Spacemaster: Privateers event but I'm coming up empty for miniatures for the event.

I've purchased several sets of Disposable Heroes from Precis Intermedia group and they're great:

ICE previously had an official batch of Cyradon/HARP heroes:

http://www.pigames.net/store/product_info.php?cPath=27_91&products_id=418

Has ICE considered doing an official line of Privateers heroes with PIG?

I acutally sculpted a couple a few years back.  I've got an Oort, a Tulgar, and a partially finished Kagoth.  I started on an Xanotasian and a Valesian but wasn't happy with them.

In the past I have bough Reaper Minins and loved them and then tried to fill in the areas I needed from other companies that are more expensive. I remember getting quite a few from Games Workshop on deep discount the last day of bis that really helped out. I have not idea how much they have gone up in 15 years though.

I do. In a word: lots.

Paper minis are an ideal and economical solution especially with how Precis organizes the minis into tri-fold, a-frame, flat/tokens in both black/white and color.

This way I also don't have to spend a bunch of time converting/modeling an individual piece or dealing with proxies.

There are a fair number of reasonable analogs out there for those who want to go to the trouble.

Tulgar - Armen - Cobalt 1 (currently in transition to a new company)
Falar - Rar - Regiment Games - Kryomek USA also has a cat race but no pictures of the figures
Xanotasians - Spugs (space bugs) - Can't recall but if anyone cares enough to ask I'll look it up
Oorts - 15mm Car Leonis - RAFM (yeah they're cat guys but they're little cat guys)
Kagoth - I think the best bet here is adding guns to a fantasy bear.
Humans - I'm afraid nobody makes these they're just too odd ball.  No idea where Defendi comes up with this stuff.

Good alternate ideas   :)

Here's a great paint job on a Spug army.

For me, it might be easier to change their body type and just use some old Star Frontiers Vrusk minis. I've had those a while.

Valiesians are a little harder.  While there are sf lizard guys like Khurasin's Garm, none of them are raptorish enough.

Reaper Minis makes raptors.

I made a bunch of 1" hexes in CC2 for my Privateers demo. I can easily rescale them up a tad for Falar and Kagoth or down a bit for Oorts.

Maybe just take some pict's or real animals and Photoshop some guns and stuff on them.

While official Spacemaster Privateers metal or plastic minis is probably impossible owing to the costs, proxies are a viable but undesirable alternative.

The Disposable Heroes are fantastic because each set comes in a variety of color and black & white formats (A-frame, tri-fold, and flat). The black & white ones are great because you can modify with an marker and color to taste.

Best of all you can print out as many as you need on paper or cardstock.

This would also allow ICE to harvest some much needed money from us. You can post all the minis suggestions you want but none of these options put coins in ICE coffers.

Interesting possibility. Will need Privateers back on sale in at least pdf first before. I think the HARP miniatures are still available from Precis.

Best wishes,

The HARP minis from Precis are indeed available.

In the meantime, I've got simple 1" hex pogs I'm using for my ICE demos at Winter War 2012. I'm going to cook up some additional ones for NPCs, beasts, and starships. These are easily printed on cardstock and cut out. If there's an interest I can send ya the .jpg and ICE can host the files for download.

Say the word.
