Today I met a girl called Emer Freeth.

I kept calling her Emer III.

I'm pretty sure she hates me.

For me it is these message boards and the RPG.net ones, as well as google images as I surf for cool pix to use in game.

OK, that is hilarious. Have a laugh point.

Okay people, the cover for the SW novel is in, and I just mocked up the cover, so it is on me! I am just tweaking the last couple of chapters (and I keep wanting to add another dragonlord scene, someone stop me), so Loremaster Legacy will be out within the next few days!  Woooo! I am counting on your support.

Shadowstone: Just messing around with some technical issues with the Amazon upload... when you want to include images with your book, they neglect to include one important step in the upload process... grrr. Announcement soon (and yes it will also be available in PDF and epub through DrivethruFiction... uploaded there also and waiting...).

Glad to hear it will be available in epub and pdf; I don't have an easy way of reading DRM-protected Kindle books (and most of Amazon's are).

I'm working on the new edition for Eidolon, and at the time when I first wrote it, I thought it was really cool that I used a typeface called Minion that had expert characters, so I could do the cool numerals that were sort of 'lowercase' and hung down, and also ligatures. Really? Back then the ligatures had to be done with search and replace in PageMaker, so now InDesign doesn't recognize them, and all those words some up as misspelled. And don't get me started setting all the new numbers I am adding in 'Minion expert' and 'Minion expert semibold.' Argh. I bet not one single reader noticed those numbers and thought, "oooh, look, expert characters!" *Facepalm.*

Just an idea, Terry, but have you thought of adding Oliver after your second name? That way you can be known as T. K. O. Amthor.... :)

Yes it takes time and effort to make things look right or look great on a page/book.

In case anyone was wondering what those special old-style numbers look like, here's an example. They are designed so they blend in more elegantly with the lower-case letters when used in general text copy, hence they have ascenders and descenders and don't all stick up like all caps. The first two lines are old-style, while the bottom two are regular numbers.

I see what you mean about their elegance. Thank you for that (this comes from a diehard Times New Roman fanatic; I won't compose in anything else if I can have a choice...). :)

Times New Roman and Arial: the bane of the Mac typographer's existence. ;-)

That said, I did Loremaster Legacy Kindle edition in TNR just because I was wary of trying anything more adventurous.

There was a period where I was using increasingly bizarre fonts for the title of an apazine that I was editing. I look back and shake my head....

I like to use fonts that are in the flavor of the subject matter, like fonts that seem old or "fantasy-like" for fantasy settings (like papyrus font for a savage or primitive campaign) high-tech or futuristic type fonts for a space game. Just nothing unreadable. (Though, I guess, my unreadable is different from another's.)

I use unreadable fonts when I give stuff to the PC's. Then when someone can read it I give a translation to them. It makes languages stand out from one another and is sort of a bonus to the person who has it.

Yeah, I have done that as well. Recently, the PCs in my HARP/Shadow World game (they are playing characters from Kalamar) found a map made by a local, it has unreadable listings that they needed to get translated.

In the midst of the big timeline update of northeast Emer. I am simultaneously updating Eidolon, Emer II and integrating things I had started with in Emer III and now bringing in, plus a few things that are happening in Jaiman. Going to move time all the way up to the beginning of 6056! Wow, lots happening.
