Ambush
« on: December 21, 2012, 08:20:22 PM »
Hi again,

Some questions re: Ambush
1) Does the attacker make a Stalk roll, to approach undetected, and then an Ambush roll? Or does Ambush now have a "stalking" component?
2) Is the Ambush a "skill vs. skill" contest vs. Perception or simply a > 100 maneuver?

Thanks,
Old Man

Ambush includes sneaking up on the target, however if they are more than 5' away and approaching for more than 1 round I also require a Stalking/Hiding maneuver to get close without being heard - then an ambush maneuver to execute the final approach and attack.

Follow the Skill vs Skill for Perception to notice Ambush (similar to the example in the book for Perception vs Stalking & Hiding)

Thom,

Thanks. So for the old "target passes in front (or near to, aka < 5') of assassin" you'd just use Ambush. For "assassin sneaks up on guard" then use Stalk followed by Ambush.

Skill vs. skill, noted, thanks!

Thom,

A followup - if Ambush fails - there is no attack and we go to declarations for a new round of combat, correct?
(Also I assume the Perception roll is a full roll not a 0 second roll at -50?)

If the Ambush fails, it's probably fairest to go to a new round and let combat begin!

Best wishes,
Nicholas
