Spurious result for Krush crit?
« on: December 08, 2019, 10:49:04 PM »
Since this has been around since originally released, I'm sure I'm not the first GM to encounter this crit. But it has come up a couple of times in recent games...

16-20 on "E" Krush - Strong blow. Foe is stunned and unable to parry next rnd. +10 to your parry next rnd.

Adding +10 to your parry doesn't seem to make sense. Surely this should be +10 to your next attack?

Not really, Arms Law was written with the assumption that everyone would parry almost every round. A bonus to parry does mean that you can devote 10 of your OB that you would have parried with to your attack. If you choose to go all defensive then you also get the benefit of the +10 to parry.

You should also remember that the critical descriptions are only suggestive and not fixed.

You could be facing more than one opponent and still need to parry. They could also have Stunned Maneuver, an herb, or some other way to get recover.

That's definitely odd, though.
No pre-written adventure survives contact with the GM.

Agreed, though, all crits are always single foe dependent and in this case, “foe is stunned, no parry” would beg the question of whom you’d be parrying when having a wide open target to assault 110%!

Not to besmirch our beloved ruleset, but misprints would be copied ad infinitum - even into RMSS, then RMFRP...

Misprint that just kept getting through, is my bet.
