Race Creation Rules
« on: January 17, 2011, 11:33:46 AM »
Were there ever any rules published for RM2 for creating new races, similiar to the rules in RMSS/RMFRP?  I don't currently have access to my RM2 books so I can't check.

Looking through the box set and companions 1-7, I don't see anything.

Best wishes,

Companion 6 (starting on PG 106) has the stat bonuses for all creatures from C&T I and C&T II. Using these along with comparing the stat charts in the Character Law and Companion I, it is easy to create your own races. Make the stats bonuses fit your race and the "fluff" you've created for them...

IMHO you could rework the RMSS/FRP race creation system to fit RM2/C if you wanted to or adapt Talent Law to fit RM2/C. But AFAIK there are no rules for RM2/C.

A rework of the RMSS/FRP race creation system is what I was thinking of doing, just wanted to make sure there wasn't an existing set of rules already.  I'm sure I'll immediately hit the problem where it won't be possible to come up with a set of rules that will be able to duplicate the existing races since I think they are inherently unbalanced, but RMSS/FRP had the same problem.

We ran a lot of numbers for the RMC CT, which resulted in a spreadsheet for race creation that used Racial Level Offset to express the difference. (and they are off balance enough for kobolds to be equal to -2 level and titans +24 levels)

Nice! Any chance that spread sheet will end up in the Vault? Or I mean the download section?

There is also a Race Creation set of rules in the Vault for RMSS that are as good as the rules in Talent Law/GM Law/Future Law but they do not have all of the talents ect.

All I have is raw numbers in spreadsheet form, old enough that I'll probably need to read it a few times to recall it straight. I sent Brent a PM.

All I know is people like to see stuff and at times it can be very useful to them. As long as things do not get too cluttered it is good IMHO.

Sent Brent the spreadsheet Cormac and I used to add RLO to the Rolemaster Companion 1 races, back when GCP got RoCo1 back and available again. So OB1 now has all the data I could find, which includes all the races in RMC CL, RMC CT and the RMCfied GCP version of RoCo1. . .

Props and credit for the work that went into that spreadsheet to the whole RMC team, plus Allenrmaher.

I'll eagerly await his making some sense of all that, I've always enjoyed his TGC articles and Vault contributions.

That is quite the spreadsheet...
What got me started on this initially is that I realized that I have done up Selkies as a race for HARP and for RMFRP but never for RMC.  I've also got a couple other races I'd like to do up Guild Companion articles for and would like to have stats for all three systems.
Now I may take a step back and see if I can come up with a reasonable set of guidelines for creating races (particularly PC races) in general for RMC.

After re-reading it a few times, I think I recall what it all means, so shoot me a mail if you have questions.

You might also want to do a TGC article showing some examples or some such thing.

RMC has some Race Creation Rules in the EAs that are obviously lifted from somewhere (HARP).

EA2: Introduction to Adventure Rewards
EA7: Addition of Culture Packages
EA10: Training Packages for RMC
EA11: Gifts expanded
EA13: Races Revisited:  Race Balance and creation for RMC.

I have used it though I feel game balance is grossly over rated.

I always just used the RMFRP race creation rules and translated the end result into RMC terms.
