Casting Spell Item
« on: October 31, 2010, 05:01:34 PM »
Hi,

I've got a doubt about Spell Item casting, with "at will effect". I know that "item casts the spell and provides all the requisite PP" (CoM, p. 110), and "the possessor may have to make a successful Attunement maneuver in order to utilize the spell ability - thereafter its owner can activate the imbedded spell as desired". So, possessor don't have to know the spell imbedded in the item for using it.
If the imbedded spell is an Acid Ball (elemental spell), may i use with the attack roll the level skill on the spell of the creator of the magical item to determine if the elemental attack does damage when i use it, or something else ?

Best wishes,

I can't find anything that says either way. So, if you're the GM i'd say it's your call when the players get the item. Whichever you prefer

Attunement will allow you to know that waving a wand and saying "Earthbolt of doom" will shoot a tiny earthbolt out the wand at the target.

Sort of like a gun. You dont have to know how the internal workings actually work, just how to point it and that you have to press the trigger...

See page 51 (table 7.1) and page 63 (table 8.2) in CoM which give OBs for spells embedded using Natural Magic (potions) and Runes; use these for other items as well.

Best wishes,
Nicholas
