Making target go against his nature
« on: March 30, 2010, 12:09:02 PM »
I was wondering whether the spell "Command" would require a 15 PP scaling option to allow the caster to make the target do something that would go against the target's nature, e.g. murder, suicide, etc.
This assumption is based on CoM spell development system and as removing this limitation is rather powerfull and dangerous, x1.5 seems to be in order.

Is this correct?

As the spell specifically states that the spell cannot be used in this way, I would not permit it regardless of any amount of scaling.

If you were going to allow it -
I would reference this for scaling (which I believe you did).
Quote
Change Effect
This option modifies the main effect of the spell in a qualitative fashion, frequently to remove a limitation Each change: +x0.5 Base to +x1.5 Base

I would also use the top end of the spectrum for such a severe scaling which would x1.5 for a total of +15PP.
(I believe those are the same as you used, so we are in agreement systemically.)

Personally, I would never allow such a scaling option to be used - period. To me, that is just asking for trouble and opening a door that should not be opened.

Also, the "limitation" you are talking about is not a limitation of the spell, but of how magic works (i.e. there is and never will be an official spell where a character can tell another character to kill themselves and they will). So, IMO, no amount of scaling will or should ever overcome that.

Well, RM had spells like these and I was wondering about how it would work in HARP. I am NOT, I repeat, NOT planning on introducing such a scaling option into my game, am, however, thinking about how one of the evil guys could create a rather nasty situation. I know that it is somehow hypocritical to allow the NPCs spells that the PCs can never get but I was still wondering how this would work in the ruleset.
