Learning Arcane Spelllists
« on: October 06, 2009, 05:14:52 AM »
In my copy of Character Law page 62 there is a talent (Archmage) which once taken allows you to buy Arcane open/closed lists at a 4/4/4 cost. Now without this talent what would it cost for a Magician to buy ranks in an Arcane list?

I would say that you use the costs for "Other Realm, xx" accordingly since Arcane is another Realm of Magic in RMSS/FRP (xx = Open, Closed, or Base).

The costs are listed in the RMSS Arcane Companion for the professions I am not sure but I think the costs are on the combined skill chart. I also think it is in the Annuals of 9x.

Depends on the level and type of the spell list...arcane have for non arcane users the same type progression as armsusers has for spells.

For the Magician that would be 6/6 for level 1-5, 8/8 for level 6-10 and so on. For closed arcane it is 10/10 for level 1-5, 12 for level 6-10 and so on. The details for this is found in table T-2.4 on page 22 of Arcane Companion.

I always require a teacher or grimore on top of the points.  You don't just figure this stuff out.  Well unless you're in the Warhammer world.  Then suddenly learning half a dozen lovely spells for rotting flesh, or destroying a person's control over their lust, or turning out berserkers, or summonning hordes of hellish fiends becomes a fairly common spell failure result.
