My HARP Game World
« on: September 15, 2009, 01:19:30 PM »
Okay, so for my first ever post I thought I'd share with you guys the world I'm currently developing for use with HARP.

There's nothing rules-wise having to do with HARP but I figured since it's the system I'll be using you might like to see it.

Sorry for the size of it... It gets shrunk when uploaded to Photobucket and I don't know how to keep that from happening.

Also, anyone who can think of cool places to Fantasy-up the map feel free.

Thanks :)

I'll give you guys a little bit of what I have world-wise.

The game will start and probably mostly take place in Vestinia which is a basic generic England-type setting, i.e. Your typical fantasy area. Royce is inspired by a mixture of Italy and Spain. Savonia is very much a Russian type area.

The Dwarves are Norwegian in their naming and the Elves are Made-up Elvish-sounding names.

And I have to thank RPG.net for the Places of Interest and the Cartographer's Guild for help with the map itself.

Fantastic!  I'm stunned for four rounds in amazement at the quality of your map.  Absolutely love it!

So as far as the setting goes rules-wise, is there a lot of differentiation from the Core rules?  I always like hearing different peoples' interpretations/uses of the rules.

Being that this is my first time actually running HARP and not just playing I'm pretty much going straight from the core rules plus the other published books. But I am working on Setting-Specific Training Packages, but that's about it.

Yeah, I'm jumping in the boat: that is a fantastic map!

Great map! One thing, though...the island nation, am I correct in seeing the name as Cryx?

In case you didn't know (Or maybe you don't care), Cryx is an island nation/force in the Iron Kingdoms, most notably one of the major armies in Warmachine.
Just FYI.

EDIT:I just enlarged, maybe it's Gryx?

I really like the map.  Good job on it.  What program did you use to make it?

Yup, the Gryx have they're own Island...

I made the map entirely in Photoshop with the Greenfish Map generator providing the coastlines.

Not sure if you'll see any more maps... They're very labor-intensive and there's not much point in doing one unless you need one for something. Though I did enjoy making it and may make some in the future if I have the reason to.

What you may see, at a later date, would be the portraits of the Characters within the game as that's more of what I do.

Check out my homepage link to see more of that... I think there may actually be some old HARP characters in my Scraps even.

One thing I didn't mention about the world is the Halflings :)

They're primarily Nomadic people from the Vaerren Steppes. I patterned them partially off the Sami people in clothing and general culture with a splash of mongolian nomads.

I developed the Culture when I played a Halfling in a HARP game about a year ago... I wanted something different. And my little bugger was deadly with his paired Kukhris :D And of course, who of us hasn't wanted a Riding Irish Wolfhound?

what i'd like to know are the steps and tutorial, basically, of how you got that map so texturized etc. anyway awesome job.

Oh god... There's a lot of steps... A lot of Brushwork at various flows, gaussian blurs and then texturizing it with a tilable mountain texture I got off the Cartographers guild, rinse and repeat... It would be very difficult to do a proper tutorial as I didn't do this in specific steps or in any sort of real order.

PM me and I might be able to be a bit more specific.
