There are only 3 instances of the Awakening spell in RMC. All three are classed as Healing spells.
Of those three, only 2 are classified as being subconscious, and those two belong to the Healer and Lay Healer professions.
To me, this says that the spell can only be used to wake up a character who has been knocked into a coma or knocked unconscious through wounds. This being an automatic trigger set by the spell being a Healing spell.
The third instance is in the Concussion's Way spell list (Open Channeling), and while this is a Healing spell (i.e. type is "H"), it is not a subconscious spell and thus has no method of presetting conditions.
There are also two instances of a spell called Awake (and one instance of Awake True), and these are classed as Utility spells, and are subconscious.
The version of the spell on the Body Reins list specifies that the caster may preset the conditions which will trigger the spell. Setting the preconditions does not require casting the spell, it only requires the character determining what the conditions should be.
The spell on the Open Mentalism list, Damage Resistance, is identical to the one from the Body Reins list, except that it doesn't have the comment about the caster being able to set the conditions. However spells of the same name are supposed to have the same description (the attributes could be different, but the description should be the same).
Therefore, it is an official ruling that the Awake and Awake True spells on page 204 of the RMC Spell Law allow the caster to preset conditions which will cause the spell to be cast subconsciously.
