Charging and Multiple Attacks
« on: April 23, 2008, 04:34:36 PM »
As a monk I get multiple attacks. If I charge a foe, does the charge bonus +30 apply to both attacks or just the first? That is, does the charge and attack last the whole round or does it last only the first attack? What if I am charging two people at once to attack (both people are right next to each other) would I get the charging bonus to both foes?

Thanks!

In our games one gm ruled that you only get one attack on a charge period.
Another ruled that you can split the bonus for the charge evenly or use the full bonus for the first and no bonuses on the additional attacks.

I, personally, wouldn't allow charging and multiple attacks unless a character is hasted, and then it would be 1, and then the other.

Both would be considered separate, full round actions, IMO.

For that last, I might pull a trick from Hero and let you do a single attack, against their averaged DB, with 1/3 of the damage applying to each of them and to your character as well...

I can understand the argument if I'm say more than 3 hexes away, but if I'm 3 hexes away (9 feet if we play 3 feet a hex), I think a monk could charge and make two very quick attacks in two seconds. But I can't see any more than that unless yeah the character is hasted.

The other one seems a bit confusing. That is not sure why I would receive the damage from a charge attack against two foes and not get the same from one foe. What about the character's defensive bonus? Why do I automatically take a 1/3 of the damage? I see this attack the same as a single foe charge but I charge to a position for example up the middle.

As I said, its a trick from Hero (i.e. Champions), making your moving attack (against multiple foes) into a Move-by type attack (and in Hero that damages the attacker as well).

Quote

Then you aren't charging, your moving and attacking. The bonus from Charging is BECAUSE you are putting your weight and speed behind the attack made at the end of the charge. You are essentially putting your whole body into the blow.

You cannot charge "to a position", you charge into a foe. Anything else would be just movement.

If I were to make a ruling, I would rule that only the first attack could get the charge bonus (which is also offset by the mods for multiple attacks).

I understand now. Thanks! =)
