RMFRP shadow world character race questions
« on: April 14, 2010, 09:18:25 PM »
You can play a giant! Oh wait, no you can't. You can play a crappy version of a giant. Giants in C & M have concussion damage multipliers and take Large criticals, but the Shadow world PC race does not. Whats the point of playing a giant that gets his ass kicked when he fights other giants? Anybody else notice this? Think its a problem? And yes I know I can out law them frommy game and I could change the rules to include  or exclude these differences but thats not the point im making the point im making is that its a screw up on the part of the setting designers. How about some errata so i can stomp on some villagers and not feel inadequate at the annual giant picnic. Whos with me?

I'm with you.   RMC has some decent rules on how to balance out more powerful races (basically by costing you DP's or levels).   I'm not sure where those stats for the giant came from but it does seem rather silly.    Are there any other races that look like a problem?

Laugh point dude.  Thanks.

I have ran giants, trolls, titans, etc.  As GM, you will have to house rule the hell out of it.  For example, do giants deliver the same hit multiple against each other?

If you care, i subtract damage multiples when such foes fight.  A PC with x2 hits fighting a foe with x3 hits will do normal hits, while the x3 delivers x2 hits.

You can apply this rule with crits too, but it gets complex.  There was a table in the old Arms Companion.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

Sorry, havent been on in a while. Its crazy, I cant remember off hand if there were any other shadow world screw ups but im pretty sure there were. Centaurs maybe, they stick in my mind for some reason. How about this; Navigators, they talk about navigator spell lists but I have never actually seen them anywhere. Any body know where they can be found?  :o

Thank you, that is very helpful. I had to just tell my players that the Loremasters and Navigators were NPC only, and thats not cool.  8)

Most of the spells on those lists were probably not meant for the everyday character, also remember that the Loremasters and the Navigators are 2 totally different factions.  They march to the tune of a different drum.  A character with the Loremaster list might be asked to go and take care of one thing while a Navigator might have to make a pickup and delivery.
Also, if a character did have the Navigator lists, the party would probably be hopping all over the world and miss out on the color and vivid descriptions as they jet all around.

Beside from being found ( now ) on the Vault, they can also be found in the Atlas Addendum from the Emer Box.  ( which is where they were originally printed )

As for reliability of potential playing character races statistics... well, even the K'ta'viiri have at least 3 different stats ( from SWMA1, from SM1 ( SMC unnumbered ), from SM2 ).
514 to see, 416 to lock, 614 to shot...Target downed...Ask the marines to pick up the pieces.

RM, RM2, RMSS, RMFRP, HARP,  MERP, Cyberspace, SM, SM2, SM:P, Star Strike, Armored Assault, SD , SD : The Next Millenium, Bladestorm, Battle of the Five Armies .... Collecting ICE production since the epoch...
