Title: How Compatible is SciFi with HARP?
Post by: Alwyn on July 19, 2007, 12:49:07 PM
Anyone know how compatible the new HARP SciFi will be with HARP, magic and combat wise?  I am assuming very much so.  ;)

The reason I am asking is that I got a wild hair and I am thinking about that once HARP SciFi is released, I am going to combine it with HARP proper to run a Barsoom (John Carter of Mars) type campaign.   ;D

You won't have any problem doing that. HARP SciFi is very compatible with HARP. :)

I figured as much, it is HARP after all.

Thanks Thos.

You are most welcome! HARP SciFi is looking really nice, and when its done I can't imagine anyone being disappointed!

There are only a handful of places where HARP SF differs from HARP. Most of those are metric-Imperial issues, so choose a single scale and run with that. The others are all SysOp's Choice or similarly identified.

Best wishes,
Nicholas

Alwyn,
I am also a huge fan of ERB and his Mars series. I would really like to know about your Barsoom campaign...

As soon as I get it up and running, I will let you know.   :)

There is no equivalent of Martial Law or Hack & Slash for HARP SF, so unless you use the combat rules in the main rulebook then you might find yourself creating a lot of critical tables for lasers and other high-tech weaponry.

Hopefully something like Hack & Slash or Martial Law will make its way in the future...

Yeah...hopefully! ;D

Having such new/exotic criticals for new/exotic weaponry would definitely attract attention to the game!

Maybe something like that will come out in the SysOps book.   ;)

Good try. But I'm not writing more crit tables. They are far too draining on me. And the page count for SysOp's Guide is already spoken for in terms of necessary topics.

I'm sure someone else will be willing to apply either Martial Law and/or Hack&Slash (Blast & Burn?) techniques to HARP SF as a future supplement.

Best wishes,
Nicholas

I think ML type criticals would be nice with HARP SF.... but I understand not wanting to write them.  I like the damage adjustment for armour and hit locations of the ML tables.  It would be especially neat with space ship combat.
