I like H&S but i'm not fond of the way damages are ajusted for located hits.
Checking for damage effects in 3 tables is a bit too heavy and increases the errors occurences.
And i think applying, for instance 3h/rd, -20, etc... even for a +1 hit "pathetic" A crit is too much gore. (this is not only a location option, this is also a more deathly combat option, i would prefer it keeps the same effects on average.)
I'm thinking about a simpler rule, something like that =>
Foot/Calf -2 critical line.
Knee -2
Thigh +1
Groin +2
Abdomen +1
Chest 0 no mod.
Neck +2
Face/Skull +3 *
Shoulder/ Upper Arm -1
Forearm /hand/elbow -2
eg:
a D result in groin would be transformed in a F result
a K result in shoulder would be transformed in a J result
etc.....
You may say this is less realistic and i would agree in some cases.
But, IMO, this is more fun for the GM.
*I would also apply a X2 or X1.5 stun for face/skull location (eg. 0 stun ==> 0 stun ; 2 stun ==> 4 stun)
and use the unconsciousness rule ** only for face/skull location hits.
With the official ** rule a CON 56- character would fall inconscious at nearly every stunning hit, even if a foot is hit (beating a RR175+ is not easy....) => that makes no sense, IMHO.
