Automata
« on: November 01, 2007, 08:25:38 AM »
Hi all. I'm trying to convert the Auomaton spell list ...

here are my thoughts:
(no idea for scaling to enchant machine II + III and empower machine II + III)

Enchant Machina:
action: instill (15)
object: item(5) magic(10)x2
range: touch (10)
AoE: 1 target (10)
duration: 1 day (130)

= 190 / 20 = 10 PP

Empower Machina:
split into different spells
all spells have
range: touch (10)
AoE: 1 target (10)
duration: 1 day (130)
=150

1.amplify
action: instill (5) increase (10)x2
object: item (5)
= 150 + 30 / 20 = 9 PP

2.fine manipulation
action: instill (5)
object: item (5) bonus (5)x2
= 150 + 20 / 20 = 9 PP

3.improved operation
action: instill (5) animate action (10)x2
object: item (5)
= 150 + 30 / 20 = 9 PP

4.elemental protection
action: instill (5)
object: item (5) resistance (10)x2 element(5)x2
= 150 + 40 / 20 = 10 PP

5.flame bolt
action: instill (5)
object: item (5) fire (5)x2
= 150 + 20 / 20 = 9 PP

6.electrical
action: instill (5)
object: item (5) electrical (5)x2
= 150 + 20 / 20 = 9 PP

7. power substitution
action: instill (5)
object: item (5) force (10)x2
= 150 + 30 / 20 = 9 PP

8. magical protection
action: instill (5)
object: item (5) resistance (10)x2 magic(10)x2
= 150 + 50 / 20 = 10 PP

9. resilence
action: instill (5) heal (5)x2
object: item (5)
= 150 + 20 / 20 = 9 PP

10. increased cargo
action: instill (5) increase (10)x2
object: item (5)
= 150 + 30 / 20 = 9 PP

any idea how to put them into one spell with scaling each option?

edit:
is a Power Projection test necessary at the end of production?

That's certainly one approach. Trying to put all the options into a single spell will make it terribly expensive.

Best wishes,

I thought of a solution like in Disease or Unluck.

But  i don't understand the maths of Disease or Unluck in the GC Spell Costs essay.

Because 11 Spells for Machina, Device, Aereal Vehicles and Vehicles a 10 ranks each is definitely to much. And 10 spells per Empower don't fit the Automaton list. There are some more.
Say 15 x 4 spells plus repair and analyse spell - over 60 spells are too much for one sphere. And too expensive.

I must recommend it here... I've no idea if any of you would like it, but I found

GURPS Technomancer

a hilarious read. Spells allowing you to call a person on the nearest available phone, animating movie characters that step out of the screen, using batteries instead of mana (or vice versa), turning water to gasoline...
If HARP modern hits the shelves, and if I manage to find a good and easy way to transfer GURPS spells, I'll immediately start aa alternate reality campaign in the technomancer-setting!
