RM2 spell list conversion to RMSS
« on: May 08, 2014, 08:43:36 AM »
Is there some things I need to be aware of for using RM2 lists in RMSS?  The one thing I noticed is a few express +X per level and I wonder if that is a serious inhibitor or boon for players.  Any feedback would be appreciated.

We've converted a good number of RM2 spell lists over.  We often tweak them a little, but most of that is slightly changing what level certain spells are gained at.

I can't think of any +X per level spells from RM2, but I'm recovering from a cold and the brain isn't at 100% again... do you have some examples?

I think there is a slight power increase in general for RM2 spells, but nothing outragous...
You can always increase the Spell Fumble ranges to compensate for PC's knowing "lost lore".

I found these lists in the Spell Users Companion, on the Jihad (Closed Channeling) list.

1-Combat Adds +1/lvl of caster to target's OB.
3-Protection Target gains +1/lvl of caster to all resistance rolls

There are few others that offer +X to level and I wondered if this is just an anomaly in this companion or something normal in RM2 lists.

The Armsmaster base list has something just like the +1/level on his armor and weapon.

Some of the spell lists I have always been leery about are the lists from the RM2 elemental comp as well as lists that allow extreme alteration of spell perimeters.

I also tend to not let people just select lists out of books other than SL but instead allow them to find them in game.

On a related topic, are there any plans to convert more RM2 Spell Lists to RMU?

I assume that, after the RMU core books are released, there will be a series of Companions, and as with the RMSS/RMFRP companions, we'll see both new lists and reworked RM2 lists.

I believe professions are the #1 thing that sell RM books.  So it makes complete sense to do the various realm companion books, each with a few new professions.  Personally I think each realm book should have at least 1 Pure, 1 Semi, and 1 Hybrid from each of the other realms (total of 4).  Which means at least 16 new base lists and it would be nice to see some expansion on Open and Closed lists in each so long as they are not too redundant or frivolous.  Maybe throw in some "Cantrip" style lists if a more generic "spell users companion" isn't done (i.e. I would think the three realm companions would make that book unneeded).

I'd call it normal... especially cool if over cast, ritualled and perminant!
