I'm GMing SW's Xa-ar campaign and at some point the PC's will face a bunch of shards. I don not envy them that... I really dont see how to kill them, but I guess I'll leave that to the players. haha!

If shards attack they are standing next to you,
doesn't this mean their pace equals '0' ?
Generally, you don't have to stand still to attack.
IIRC, the RMFRP creatures book says they attack by standing motionless and slinging their "poison waste matter arm disks". But they have to spend the previous round running to build up momentum. So, you're right. But if you attack while they're moving, they get the crazy DB.

I found players are usually too scared by them to attempt this. As a player, I downed one while playing a talath bashkar: frenzied, charged, killer critical. I then was soundly beaten to near death.
