Without a license from Aurigas Aldebaron LLC that is a violation of IP laws and would not be permitted.

If you were to write a module and post it for free on your own personal website that is fine provided you make the proper disclaimers about the fact that Aurigas Aldebaron owns the rights and you're not making any claim to them, etc.

Rule Extensions can be OK or can be a problem, depending upon how much of the existing rules they include.

Generally speaking, you are best off working through GCP or TGC, but if you don't want to work with them, then contact John Seal or myself and we'll let you know whether or not you can publish for free on your personal website or if you need a license.  Licenses can be given for both free items and items that are sold.

Let me mak this clear, I have no plans to publish anything in such a way. It's just something I have been asked about in the past and simply couldn't answer.
The question was actually something like this "If I write a book about Visual Basic tutorials, will Micro$oft put a hit out on me?" Which then got me thinking about RPG publishers and the similarity between their material and that of a software house.

Understood - I never took it as anything more than a general inquiry.

I'm looking forward to it even though I'm a RMFRP guy. New spell lists are always exciting! :D

Idea is to submit material 1st to ICE to see wether they like it at all and sort any potential IP issues should there be any. Then take it from there. Since complete works will end up being 100+ pages long I'm not sure how long review will take once it's submitted (sticking to 27th deadline).

Its legal.  You just can't stat it for an existing system without permission.

Nice.
I made my own tables for Large and Super-Large spell criticals, some years ago. I kinda cheated though and placed some of the crits together, i.e., Disintergration and Disruption (along with a couple of others) in the same table. They are so old, they are hand-written  ::)

I have a mountain of work to get done these days so I can only really turn to finishing up the book on weekends  :'( BUT it's nearly complete and I've been trying to contact ICE to send them a preview of the work. Fully complete book should be done next wednesday provided work goes as planned or saturday three days after that. I have to put everything together in one single document (using Excel and Word, now totalling twelve files due to my own process) and move on to reviewing the full works, not much more.

Probably shouldn't go public with my expected due date, but what have you, I probably shouldn't take my Force Mage unprotected over castle walls as I did last sunday either (mage took a nice arrow through the heart courtesy of a double open ended attack he received incidentally) ...

Old ICE used to do something called the Rolemaster Quartely - this sounds ideal for one of those if GCP are going to continue that line.

Obviously there's the Vault or The Guild Companion as well which have been mentioned previously.

If GCP (new ICE) take it up for something, it's likely I'll be dealing with it anyway but if you'd like help making it into a pretty PDF for the Vault, I'm more than happy to help!. :)
(I think The Guild Companion generally has all their info as HTML pages instead of PDFs)

Either way, I'm really looking forward to this. ;D

This is generally true, although I recall seeing weapon tables published in PDF format to preserve the idiosyncratic layout.  With new professions and spell lists, we've used HTML.

Does that mean you'd recreate it in HTML even if it was already a PDF? (just curious)

And furthering my curiosity - what are the rules when it comes to the Vault, TGC and also providing it on your own website as well. Are you only allowed to have it in one of those locations and not 2 or 3 of them?

Thanks

Yes, I think we would likely convert to HTML.  PDF is an editing headache, which is why we prefer office formats (Open or Microsoft).

In terms of copyright, TGC does not claim copyright on anything it publishes.  The author retains copyright, which allows her/him to publish on a personal website.  I don't know the rules for the Vault, but I suspect that they have a similar policy.

Sitting down to finish off "book". Barring absolute catastrophe, I'll send an evaluation copy out to Nichollas tomorrow evening, after that, I have no idea how long the whole process, should there be any, takes, but I'll keep you all posted.
