Individual Spell picks with Archmages
« on: July 05, 2010, 10:35:41 PM »
The cost for spells for Archmages in SLII is 2/*.  Does this increase to 4/* when the optional rule for individual spell picks is used?  This would make the cost the same as semi-spell users which seems excessive.  OTOH, keeping it at 2/* would make the cost the same as Pures and Hybrids for this spell selection scheme. It seems that making the cost 3/* would be a good compromise.

What do you all think?

I would say that for the individual spell pick options, that 3/* is what you should use.

It's a good compromise.  If you followed the suggestion in Spell Law and doubled the cost, their spells would be as expensive as semi spell-users.

The option in Spell Law doesn't take the idea of Arcane Spell Users into consideration.

In fact, the option in Spell Law only says to double the costs of Pures and Hybrid spell users, those of Semis and nons are left alone.

And I wouldn't class an Arcane Spell User as either a Pure or a Hybrid, at least not technically.

And since Arcane users should have a spell list cost that is more than that for Pures/Hybrids and less than that of Semis, a cost of 3/* is both our only option to fill that definition AND makes sense over all.  ;D
