Title: Bladestorm
Post by: broodhunter on March 20, 2014, 05:55:27 AM
Does anyone have any detailed information on the factions in Bladestorm?

Do you mean more than was in the sourcebook?  I don't think anything else was ever published.... It is a pity, I really liked the system.  The setting... meh.  But I always wished this game had gotten more love.  And it would have been great to have it alive and kicking when the plastic minis starting coming online.  oh well, opportunities lost

That is quite a coincidence. I have just purchased a copy of Bladestorm in order to get my minis out on the table and play around with the hirst arts stuff. Haven't read all the rules yet, but the system seems to be quick and lethal enough to have a couple of nice nights throwing dice around.

I don't want to derail the discussion here, so would you mind popping over to this thread Alphaelectric?

Well, I have been reading through the rules and I must say: "I'm sold". Bladestorm seems the perfect system to enact RPG-type encounters. After I got the minis for the introductory encounter painted (Cro, Mantu and Argh vs. the Sea Troll), it is fast paced and a lot of fun. The fact that the background is placed in Shadow World and that some of the special evil buddies come along with specs and all, really takes it over the top. Talking about the intro chars....I'll have a hard time not thinking of these names when giving them minis a roll call.

For now I have mounted a bunch of my prepped miniatures  on 1" bases and will create some interesting encounters in the next couple of weeks. I am curious about the effects of spells in the game.

I am however not sure, if I can talk my group into using this system as a replacement for Rolemaster "Arms Law". Maybe if it comes to a very, very large fight.

One thought that keeps rolling around my head is the application of the same rule principles to Spacemaster based encounters. I am still too new to the system and will have to play (against myself or some poor vicitim) until I have fully understood it's possibilities, but I sense there is this....

....sweet, sweet smell of adaptation in the air.

Maybe I'll cross reference the rules against the old Fasa "Battletroops" rules at a later point and see if the "covert ops" style rules and sci-fi firearms can somehow be ported. I am sure it can be done...

Nice! Definitely a jewel to be uncovered.

Hey Alphaelectric, I am happy some people are still finding this great game!  I agree, the system has a core of a great system.  It lacks a few things, like mounted combat (and has some drek, like bladestorms and the magic system is sort of .... meh), but I really like it for skirmish combat.  I often think about working up a HARP conversion to use Bladestorm as a large melee system.  But the magic conversion drains my energy.  I thought they had been working on it in the previous iteration of ICE, but can't seem to find anything.

The idea of using it for sci fi combat is interesting.... hmmm.
