I think I have a post in here somewhere about a starter ship design I have built for an adventure I've kind of moved to the back burner. I can't find it now, but here is some of the text from the adventure write up.
This design is based on an old Federation Courier Shuttle design that has been modified for extended combat operations. The defined role for this configuration of the Phalanx class is to provide space superiority over similar sized spacecraft and to provide short to medium range escort for missile boat configured shuttles. This ship has not been officially named yet by its crew, and has not been in combat to receive a “blooded” name. Yard crews have taken to naming such vessels in this class as “Brick” and their production sequence number - thus it’s unofficial name is “Brick-41”.
Ship Designation: LLS-GB-041-0
3rd Point, 2nd Wing, 1st Attack Squadron
Ship Type: Combat Shuttle –Gunboat
Ship Class: Phalynx -GB
Cost: 105.5M sol
Mass: 665 tons loaded mass
Accommodations: Bunks for 10, small medical bay, common/briefing room, 2 toilet/showers, small galley. 100 man/days life support/provisions (500 man/days additional life support and provisions in cargo bay)
Cargo: 25 tons cargo (typically 10 tons of ammunition (Autocannon: 50 shots -1min/rd or 1000 shots - 2sec/rd; PD: 300 shots - 1mn/rd or 4,500 shots - 2sec/rd), 2 tons additional provisions, 5 tons additional fuel, 3 tons empty or incidentals, 5 tons capacity empty)
Powerplant: 140 early minifusion reactors with 250 canisters fuel (12.5M En total + cargo fuel)
Combat Specifications: Init -6, Hits 61, Armor 20, Shields 20, EW 10, PD 10, Man 9
+0 Small Lasercannon, +0 small Autocannon
Acceleration and Maximum Safe Speed: 600 G/ 0.07C speed
Power Use: 199,500 En/hr at Cruise speed, 399,000 En/hr at full speed, 665 En to jump
The Lasercannon uses 150 En/shot in 2 sec/rd combat or 2,500En/shot in 1min/rd combat.
Uses 9975 En /minute during combat maneuvers, or 333 EN per combat round.
Sensor Systems: Early Sensor System (RI 0.5 light second, capable of Biological, Construct, Planetary, and Stellar Analysis)
The Phalanx-MB Combat Shuttle is the Missile Boat configuration and is identical to the GB except it lacks the autocannon and its 10 tons of ammunition, replacing it with 5 small missiles and 5 additional missiles in cargo/reloaders. It takes approximately 5 combat rounds for the reloaders to load and ready a replacement missile. The reloading and launch systems account for the additional ton of mass difference between the variants.
The Phalanx-CS Command Shuttle is the Command and Control configuration and is identical to the GB except it lacks the autocannon and 10 tons of ammunition. These are replaced by two additional crewmembers (the unit commander and his assistant) and additional provisions, an upgraded Sensor, Communications and EW suite granting a +5 bonus, 2 small missles with 4 more in cargo/reloaders. It takes approximately 5 combat rounds for the reloaders to load and ready a replacement missile. The reloading and launch systems account for the additional ton of mass difference between the variants.
The Phalanx has the capacity for 10 crewmembers, but due to staffing shortages are often crewed with only 4 to 6. These reduced crews often have to do double duty while running the ship.
Last Leg Space Missiles accel at 900g to a max speed of .1C with a chase range of 1Million km.
This design is a new built combat vessel from a lost colony that is working from some older designs and technology. Thus it still uses early reactors. It has been a while since I reviewed this design, but I suspect the max speed and accel may be too high, so cutting them back to 0.02c and 300Gs would be pretty believable.
The plan for the adventure was to put a green crew in a combat ship to save their colony from alien invaders. They go on a raid mission against the invader base, then return to try to help defend the colony from another enemy combat fleet. At the end of the adventure they would escort a refugee ship back to core human space and find themselves with no clear directives or orders, and the posession of a slightly used and outdated starship.
Given announcements from my current employeer I may have plenty of time to finish this adventure up.
But maybe this design would help you out. Come Monday or Tuesday I should have some free time and I may be able to put together another design for you. Perhaps a large transport shuttle converted to small tramp freighter with some obsolete parts. As a matter of fact I think I may have a very similar design already hammered out. If I get some more time I'll check on that.
