Arcane Magic & Arcane Professions
« on: March 05, 2021, 04:17:19 AM »
Hi
Has anyone come up with new rules for Arcane magic or designed new professions that are of realm Arcane?
I am working on an making some professions Arcane semi-spell users (e.g. Crafter) and a Warrior Arch-Mage profession.
They get 1/* for spell picks but progress as A,C,D and have less base lists.

Perusing the spell lists in RM2, there seems to be alot of Arcane spell lists there to be utilized.

There definitely are a lot of old Arcane lists to pick from, and the idea of an Arcane semi is cool!

I do not have any to share but I have seen a few that are really tied to settings and in general when I saw them did not think they would work well out of the setting and or home game.

back in the day we did not use the Archmage and Arcane Lists.

Then RoCo3 came out and the only arcane spell user we used for our setting was defined by the following:

* The Magus Profession served as the base for the Skill Profile.
* Arcane Spell Learning used the rules in RoCo3 pg 30 (4.5 Individual Spell Development)
* The Magus was considered a Hybrid for the spell development cost chart
* he could pick a set of 6 arcane lists as open own realm
* any other arcane list was considered closed own realm
* Essence/Channeling/Mentalism lists where considered different realms

we never adapted the rules from RoCo4 pg 26 (4.8 Individual Arcane Spell Costs)
I'd swallow cthulhu whole, with sushi and soy-sauce.

Currently: [BME] [FitD]
Legacy: [d6] [Genesys] [ArsMagicka] [MERP] [HARP] [Ubiquity] [d20] [WoD] [SR] [WHFRP] [WOIN/O.L.D.] [RM2/C]

Thanks for the input.

I meant to say 4/*

I think with all the Arcane material there is room for one... or more Arcane semis !

Here's what I come up with for a
WARRIOR ARCHMAGE

Base lists they get to choose 4 from the following
AURA MAGIC   RM2 V p71
COMBAT LAW   RM2 VII p89
ELEMENTAL WAYS   RM2 II p74
FORCEFIELDS   RM2 V p79
HIGHRIDlNG   RM2 II p75
MIND'S TOUCH   RM2 II p74
MOVEMENT ENHANCEMENT   RM2 II p72
SENSE ENHANCEMENT   RM2 II p73
WARRIOR LAW   RM2 SUC p108

Level bonuses
+1 Academic
+1 Athletic
+1 Base Spell
+2 Body Dev
+2 Combat
+1 Concentration
+2 Magical
(I house ruled level bonuses sum to 10 for all professions).
