Topic: Monster spell-like abilities - calculating OBs

How do you determine the OBs for spell-using monsters spell attacks? 

E.g. Fire Giants cast spells from the 'Fire Law' base list, so when they cast Fire Bolt, what OB (I think this is their Directed Spells bonus?) do they use?  This is not clear to me from the Monster stat chart in RMFRP (C&M p155).  What is the maximum spell level (rank) they can cast?  Is this the monsters level?  Can anyone point me to where all this is stated in the rulebooks?

Same question for area spells and non-elemental spells - I think the OB is based on the attackers skill rank.  What is this for monsters, and where do the rules tell me this?

It isn't clear.  I would give the giant no more spell ranks than he has levels and use a very low directed spell bonus due to stat penalties and their fighter profession.

Confirmed.
Just check skillsheets and note the profession you’d apply to such a beastie.
Most non or semi spell slingers in RM develop a single rank per level in Magic skills if at all due to the exorbitant costs(20-40+ DP usually).
If Hybrid or Pure, double up on skill ranks per level and don’t skip any - your PCs wouldn’t!
If innately Elemental in nature, ramp it up to 3 ranks per level, even!

Run a few sample combats where your beastie stands toe to toe and surrounded by NPC combatants and again where it has a good range away from ‘em to test how lethal it is and for play balancing when you have your Players around ya’.
