Differences between RM 1984 & RM 1989 releases?
« on: June 20, 2011, 07:29:35 AM »
Hi,

What is the major differences between the boxed release from 1984 and the boxed release 1989 except the covers and the layout of the books?
Which is the better version and why?

Someone on this site has a complete listing/history of RM releases, which I assume includes their various editions and incarnations.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

The only major change that I can recall is to the Combat Sequence, otherwise it's pretty much just a rearranging of the material.
The combat sequence had a Fire Phase(B) and a Fire Result Phase (B) added.
They also changed missile attacks from taking 75% activity to only taking 50% activity.

IIRC they also changed some modifiers from +/-X% to just +/-X to simplify the math.

They also changed the level of a few spells, added one or two spells AND reduced the multiplier/cost for some of the extraordinary spell list picks.
