Shadow World / Re: Misc SW material

basically i do consider a static/frozen setting a dead duck in the water.

yet than again Middle Earth is exactly the same thing. we have history up to the forth age and then nil.

also warhammer fantasy has been rehashing their empire in flames a forth time until a publisher got enough balls to do an alternative base campaign in a different part of the country.

maybe it is exactly that -- freeze emer and jaiman -- and develop another part of the globe for the upcoming RMU.

but dont get into the frenzy and detail every other outhouse there is.

Shopper's Guide / Re: Why is Companion VII so expensive

Maybe it also overlapped with the rollout of RMSS, meaning it became obsolete pretty quickly?

RMCVII was 1993, RMSS came out 1995

But i remember that both RMCVI and RMCVII never had much circulation here in Austria.

Some of the Nordics still carry RM2 and MERP stuff for a steal.

ICE News and Discussion / Re: Locating "Lost" Authors to Bring Back "Lost" Books

Yes, RM2CII would be THE key companion to have back in print, which is why I am so keen to find Mike Carlyle.

(For those who don't know the rarer RM2CVI, it actually has a restructured and unified skill list simplifying all the skills from the companions that go before it. By calculations earlier in this thread, all authors are known and so it is with ICE to answer whether it is able to be republished.  I have scanned and OCR'ed my copy in preparation.)

Thanks for the suggestion Cory.

The next priority is to find the author Mike Carlyle, and this will unlock re-publication of RM2 Companion II and RM2 Elemental Companion

The two books I use most from RM2 LOL.  RMC-II is the bible for creating a PC and my whole gaming world is elemental magic only so the EC is used tons. :)

Fair enough and I do see your point about how the player could misinterpret the intent. I personally am leaning toward the tables simply for the tightness.
Quote
1) Heal II – Caster heals concussion hits on himself, and may select two options from Table X.X from the Concussion or Effect sections.

A player is going to ask "how many hits does it heal before I add the options?"

So how about:
  • Heal II – Caster heals concussion hits on himself by selecting up to two options from Table X.X from the Concussion and/or Effect sections.
Likewise with Bone Healing:
  • Bone Healing IV – Caster can treat an injury to cartilage, bone, and/or the skull on himself by selecting up to four options from Table X.X from the Heal Bone and/or Effect sections.

If you keep the tables, I think the spells need to be clear that the benefit comes from the table picks. E.g.

1) Heal II – Caster heals concussion hits on himself, and may select two options from Table X.X from the Concussion or Effect sections.

A player is going to ask "how many hits does it heal before I add the options?"

2) Bone Healing IV – Caster can treat an injury to cartilage, bone, and/or the skull on himself, and may to select four options from Table X.X from the Heal Bone or Effect sections.

It says right in the description that it will heal my skull injury plus I get to pick 4 options on top of that. I know that's not the intent, but I also know a player will read it that way.
