Title: RM Creatures -- Relase comments
Post by: dutch206 on December 01, 2007, 09:23:10 AM
I must say, this is quite a high quality product.  I especially appreciated the article on magic item pricing, which alleviated my concerns from the preview.  To the design team, all I can say is:

"Good job, now back in your cages and get to work!  The Combat Companion isn't done yet."   :whip:

Umm.. the RMC Team folks are working on Combat Companion. That is me doing that.

Several members of the RMC Team HAVE turned their hands to other projects, some to the Gift Companion, and some to Campaign Law.

Umm.. the RMC Team folks are working on Combat Companion. That is me doing that.

After some thought, I realized that the above sounded a bit pompous (which I don't like). I had made the post in a hurry (I forget why I was in a  hurry though), and thus kept my comments shorter than they could have been.

I do have a correction to make about the first part cause I forgot all about mentioning him in my previous post. David Johansen wrote the  criticals (and did an EXCELLENT job of it) for the new combat system.

And then there is Vroomfrogle, without whose comments, the style system would not have likely turned out as well as it did. He also provided a good review of some options that we were looking for the ABTP rules, and that helped ICE finalize some

And there were other members of the RMC Team who made suggestions and comments regarding other portions of the manuscript, all of which helped make it as good as it is.

So while, yes, I am the author of Combat Companion, there are others who have contributed advice and, in the case of David, some content to the product. Much like how Nick's Alpha and Beta players have helped make HARP SciFi as good as it has become.

Several members of the RMC Team HAVE turned their hands to other projects, some to the Gift Companion, and some to Campaign Law.

Corrections to make here as well. The RMC Team is now basically disbanded, since the final release of RMC:C&T.

So, we actually have 2 teams (with membership that overlaps). One working on the Gift Companion and the other working on  Campaign Law.

They are as follows:

Gift Companion Tim
Lordmiller
Vroomfogle
Maikeru
eiseg
Chosen GM
Cormac Doyle
(plus a few project specific contributions from Heike and myself, such as the Adventure Rewards that premiered in EA#2)

Campaign Law Team
allenrmaher
Cormac Doyle
eiseg
LordMiller
maikeru
Vroomfogle

And on all three projects, the forum Moderators have also occasionally dropped in to provide insightful comments as well.

(there... much less pompous sounding overall.... heheh   ;D)

Wow...it's like a virtual "who's who" of the website.  I don't recall ever seeing a company with authors that spent this much time interacting with their fans before.

Internet is a lovely thing. . . .amazing working a project with people across the country, and even spanning multiple continents.

Hello everyone, I have a quick question for all of you. Am I going to notice a difference in content between the new RMC C&T and the original C&T. I guess I am basicly wondering if there is a difference in creature stats..?, any new critters?, actual rules for making and converting your own creatures?
Or am I going to get the new C&T and realize its just the old one....organized better?
I just ordered all the core RMC books including this title, and I am looking forward to reading them.
Happy holidays.....got to love winter in Canada...snow..snow..and more damn snow!!

It is pretty much *mostly* the original. There are a few new additions and of course better reorganization.

One thing that the RMC C&T contains that the original did not, is a much better explanation of creature abilities.

The rules on items and will are included, going up to "artifact" intelligence.

more complete rules on quality of manufacture. (Now you know what a "shoddy sword" is.)

Racial level offset to balance out the races better.

I'm too used to the hush, hush nature of the RMC team. I forgot the book was released to the public. ;)

I was trying to be subtle. ;)

looked over the book a bit more, this is the new stuff, I think this is all:

Clearer rules on Flight movement, BMR vs pace and gliding.

Size and melee range

Knockback modifcation by size.

"EveryCreature Attacks"

More detailed info and mechanics on creature abilities.

Some cleanup in the actual creature entires, format, prose and detail.

Detailed descriptions of Type I to Type VI created undead.

Racial Level Offset to help balance races.

BGO figures for all the races in CT

Rules on Quality of Manufacture of Items.

Items & Will as SL but extended to include "Artifact" intelligence.

Cleaned up item descriptions.

Added a "Vampiric Blade" description to tie to the table listing.

A usable index. . .

I don?t understand very well the Speed Chart in Creatures and Treasures 1, which comes reprinted in the Rolemaster Classic Creatures as the Speed Table, some great supplements!

Should one add the (Attack Quickness) Charge / Lunge modification, which comes as a negative modifier for high speeds, to the attack roll?

In the Rolemaster Companion 3, pp. 18-19, mounted riders get to their Thrusting Weapons a +1 bonus for each 10 ft/round of speed that they ride their mount into combat.

It should make sense that for charges a Blindingly Fast animal should get a bonus to their attack roll. Should the -20 modification in this case be added to the OB?  ;)

Regards,
Ant?nio

I don?t understand very well the Speed Chart in Creatures and Treasures 1, which comes reprinted in the Rolemaster Classic Creatures as the Speed Table, some great supplements!

If you read the second row of the table in C&T it says that all mods given below are "Defensive Bonus Modifications". In the paragraph above it is stated that MS Base is used to find out a creature's base DB, while the Charge/Lunge modifiers is used as a penalty to a creature's DB when the creature charge.
So a Blindingly Fast animal would have a base DB of 50 (in C&T description this is already calculated), would get a -20 modification to its DB when charging (because it cannot use his agility to evade blows) and a +25 bonus to its DB when concentrating on evadins its enemies blows.

The rules for charging are laid out in RMC Arms law, and don't match the rm2 rule you reference.

Charge/lunge and flee/evade are DB modifications. . .the DBs listed already have creature quickness modifications built into them, but if the creature chooses to make either of those two actions, then modify their DB by the amount listed.
