G'day!
I've finally started working on the Rolemaster Rome Companion that I have been planning for a while. I'm estimating a projected word count of 75 000 words, and have drafted, at present, just over 5880 words; I plan on having about 15 000 words of first draft ready by late Sunday (tomorrow) night.
At this point, I am not concentrating on system-specific data, so there will be a list of significant NPCs of the Augustan period, for example, but no stat blocks, skill listings, etcetera, saving them for latr (for example, in adventures, books of NPCs, etcetera).
I can note what I have sketched thus far:
- a detailed timeline of the life of Augustus
- expanded lists of wages, service costs and prices
- a list of Augustan-era notables
- an expanded list of deities and named spirits
- a reading list of secondary sources
I may add the following:
- a chapter on the priestly colleges
- a chapter on monstrum
- a list of languages of the ancient world
- and probably more: feel free to add requests, below
I expect to have the first draft ready in just under two months.

Personally I'd also find some notes on crime and punishment in the roman world useful.
Also the difference between citizenship and non citizenship.
-
Looking forward to it!
Do you plan on adding some adventures? I've always loved RM source books, but found they were sometimes a bit lacking in some adventures. It might be good to include some to get the characters started.
-
Agree on adventures. Outlaw was good in that respect. The Viking one was somewhat lacking, as were the Egyptian and pirates supplements.

Hey, just wondering how things are going, it was a while ago ...

I apologise for my silence: this year has been spent concentrating on studies that will see me get a paying job, so that i can actually start getting an income that will fund my research & my writing. as a result, it has been largely a "sabbatical" but i am slowly resuming work on the Rolemaster Rome Companion.
One of the major hindrances is the wait for the newer version of the Beta test, as the Companion will be using RMU as the core system (with conversions &/or conversion notes as needed).

Hi
I hope you get a job soon so that work with Rome will start again :-) Good luck .
Merry Christmas to you all from me.

You just need an epically cool map (so I can steal it for my own setting).

I have several friends who are wargamers and Rome has always been of historical interest.
Rome as a Republic lasted for centuries.
Rome as an Empire lasted for centuries.
The Byzantine extension of Rome persisted for even more centuries...
So, if I were to GM a Roman campaign, I have a lot of leeway along a vast timeline with very rich cultures and possibilities for historical adventurers, as well as adaptations for fantasy adventures, if you've read R.E. Howard's "Bran Mak Morn" stories.
-
I'm also thinking of doing a kind of Time Riders campaign in the future, so anything Republican, Imperial, or Byzantine would be very welcome.

The time of the First Emperor has plenty of possibilities; A peaceful vacation on the Rhine with Publius Quintilius Varus, a trip to Egypt to see Cleopatra and Marcus Antonius get crushed... Yet thousands of miles away, the Han Dynasty is at its height... The Chinese knew of Rome through Parthia but the Romans never bothered to ask the Parthians what existed beyond Parthia's borders. The later Byzantines eventually became China's largest customer for silk before Giovanni Del Carpine ventured East.
