Question about casting spells while stunned
« on: June 26, 2024, 12:50:20 PM »
Hi! Back again with another unclear question.

RMSS states that you can’t attack or have any other allowable action except movement and maneuver as long as you’re stunned

Yet.. the monk has a spell which relieves rounds of stun. How could he cast this while stunned? The spell is on the body renewal list.

I could use your insight.

The spell has an extra letter S on the type. Spells of this kind will trigger automatically when they are needed without the character using an action. The limitation about spells each round do still apply so a character with multiple injuries will require a ruling from the GM about how to determine priority.

In RMSS Spell Law, look under the Spell Sub-Types at the end of page 6. It defines that "s" as:

Quote
s -- Subconscious spell. These spells are capable of being cast (or triggered) by the subconscious. The caster can always cast a spell of this type as a normal spell; and if he is unconscious (or is asleep or in a trance), a spell of this type can be cast by the subconscious as necessary (starting with the highest spell neeed). An exception to this is the Stun Relief spell. This spell may (at the option of the caster) be cast by the subconscious while the caster is stunned.

To be honest, self stun removal spells would be pretty useless if one can absolutely not, under any circumstance,  cast spells whilst stunned…

Remove someone else's stun could work?

But yes... Self Healing Stun relief would be less than useful ;-)

There were a long discussion about forbidden actions during stun and spells were not forbidden by FRPG, because they are maneuvers. Attacks with spells are forbidden though. And of course you must abide to the %of activity left and penalties to all actions (including spell casting maneuver) best regards micael
