Is there any word or insight as to if they the are going to do a Space Master playtest? From what I have read they are rebuilding space master which I am losing my mind over (sci fi being my favorite setting)  Didn't know if there was a time frame that iron crown was on.

markc

I head that they are going to get RMU out first and then work on SMU. No time frame has been given but I also think that they are going to be working on some support stuff for RMU before SMU.
But I could be wrong and I have no special knowledge on the subject.

Will it be the privateers universe/setting?

markc

From what I have seen is that it may be the same universe as SM2 as Terry K Amthor has been asking questions about that universe setting. But again a lot of things can happen before a product is published.
But if there is enough interest I think that the Privateers Universe setting could have a set of books also.

They haven't spoken to me about it, but as Mark said, it's probably not time for that yet.

This brings another question. I was reading the privateers book and between each chapter is slice of a story about a tag tag team trying to destroy the Jeoren Munitions depot though what happened in the end it seemed as though there was some twist with a dragoon and someone else? Did the tularian die?Did the tortured human die...was it a set up just would like some insight

Very cool, I hope it goes this route as I really refer this setting to the Privateers setting. (I am just not that into anthropomorphic animals... so no Other Suns for this guy.  :o )

I know that R. Defendi had some fiction that he talked about releasing in the past (in book form, with some editing) about the group but I do not know anymore about it than that.

I liked the direction they took the anthropomorphic animals from the Honorable Tulgar, peaceful Kagoths, the Conquering Talar, the emotionless raptors, the Give mind xanototians, and lastly while not in the privateers setting the nihilist, superior Tezcat. I felt that the so well defined races and cultures was amazing. It helped bring out rich role playing and personally love that level of structure. I wish I could write for iron crown enterprises in that respect .

markc

IMHO maybe you and R Defendi and ICE can work out a deal. I would drop them a PM and see if anything happens from there.

Humans are anthropomorphic animals.  I really liked the SM:P setting.  It combined classic sci-fi elements with an classic authoritarian versus liberty setting.

Even if you throw out the setting, the rule set is excellent.

My own SM:P game took place in our solar system (developed out to Jupiter).

Any setting books or various support material would be awesome.  I doubt that is going to happen with five volunteers developing RMU.  How can they find time for anything else?

The book was actually a prequel Clancyiesque military/spy thriller with different characters. It followed one of the flotilla fleets that was on the border during the first moments of the war, the Tulgaran remnants after the night of the long knives, and the DSA analyst who's put in charge of tracking enemy ship movements after the loss of Astrillairon.

As for your question, I'd look at those pieces again. Were you referring to Races and Cultures, however? That was the Guns of Navoronne style story. :)

The current plan is to do a new edition of the original Barrett/Amthor Imperium setting. Defendi's SpaceMaster is a different universe, and, while compelling, is incompatible. These would have to be done separately.

I can't wait for SMU and I prefer the 2e Imperium setting. Never cared for the RM:P setting, but didn't hate it. I'd buy a Privateers supplement for SMU though.

SMU?  I laugh every time I see it.  Maybe when we are all very, very old men.

Besides, the mechanics of SM:P is so excellent, I have no need for SMU.  Irrelevant anyway as I have no faith in it ever being written.

Now updated SM2 Empire material, yes.  Terry eventually gets his work done.

Pessimist mood off.

What I would like to see is a set of books that are generic Spacemaster.  Then provide a series of settings books, - i.e. Privateers and Imperium.

RoleMaster is generic.  Why cannot Spacemaster be the same?  Exploring all possible tech levels, etc.  Then, as said, provide settings books that alter these generic rules (guidelines).

Warl

Spacemaster should be interchangeable with rolemaster.

Rolemaster should be the core book and Spacemaster a "Companion" book that gives you the professions, skills, talents and equipment for running generic Space games.

SM:P was as generic as we could make it, since there is no implied setting for SF. We had all the tech levels, components to build ships. I don't think the race rules ever came out but you could build with the RM rules easily enough.

IIRC, The race rules were published in a Data Net.

That's right. They were in the original book ICE commissioned as an expansion to RM, but I couldn't remember how they landed when that book was cut up.
