I wish there was some nifty software that would let you just feed all your old archive disks in one after the other, it compiles all your files, an lets you burn all new ones with better use of space (I have all these poorly-labeled disks with duplications).
I did that two years ago, I didn't bother to look for a software :
I copied everything on an USB HD, then made a copy of that HD ( for backup purpose ).
After that I sorted everything the way it should be sorted, and put it on yet another USB HD.
Right now I'm looking at using a Sparc Ultra 45 with several 1TB HDS as a long term storage system for all my pictures and films. ( I'll probably end up putting the Hds in Raid 0+1 )
Sadly there's no real solution to the problem of obsoleting file storage.
Right now almost nobody can read a 5"1/4 Floppy, some people can still read a 3"1/2 one [ I'm not even trying to find a drive for a 8" one ], CDs still have backwards compatibility from DvD and BD, but drives are getting optional in a lot of systems. I won't go into tape drives as they cost an arm and the tapes cost a leg.
