Halo With Spacemaster.
« on: June 23, 2013, 11:30:13 AM »
So I am looking to create a Halo game to run using the spacemaster system. Note I have the what I think is the Original Space master and space master companion, And Tech law.

I have never had the pleasure as of yet to actually play or run this ICE Product. How Similar is the Spacemaster system to Rolemaster? Are they easily meshed?

Also wondering if anyone else has done any work on a Halo Style game as well willing to share their conversions... or if anyone else would be interested in a collaboration in building such a framework, espeically some one who has a Background in Spacemaster.

The two systems mesh nicely.  You will have to determine skill cost.

Skill resolution and combat are basically the same.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

One thing I like in RM2 is Ceats or second by second tactical combat.

Does spacemaster have an option like this in any of the supplemental books?

Spacemaster and Rolemaster are pretty much the same system mechanics, so I would think you should be able to use Ceats with SM...?  Ceats was never official to my knowledge, so I don't think you'll find it in SM books.

I know that ceats itself  was never officiak as it was an option in comp VI, but IIRC correctly, there was a version of it in rmss that I thought was in an official work.... as for which version of SM I have, I have a green blue book and red book with no real cover art for the primary books.

I do not know of a Ceats system for RMSS but there are % options in SM:P, SM:P Weapon law and RMSS Arms Law: Firearms that can be adapted for that system.

I have my own s by s system that I have used for a combo SM:P and RMSS game that worked fine. (No I cannot share the system I used  ;D )

Maybe a Guild Companion article?

There was a second-by-second system in the Guild Companion back several years ago (was written by Laura Trauth based off of a system that her group used).  That system works pretty well.  Don't recall which version of RM it was intended for, but I had used it with RMSS for a 3-1/2 year campaign for which it worked great, and it should be easy to use it in any of the versions of Spacemaster as well.
