"Doubles" on Utility Spells
« on: December 21, 2008, 08:08:02 PM »
So it has come up that rolling "Double" and "Double x2" and so forth on utility spells isn't completely clear.  Most utility spells don't have attributes to double other than duration.  My question is thus: can a Double effectively bring forth a scaled option?  There have been several "Double x 2" on spells such as Hammerstrike and Bladeturn.  Obviously these spells have scaling options that allow increased duration and range, so it leads me to believe that other scaled options could be caused as well.

Double the number of targets, the duration, the range, etc...

But, no, Double does not allow for adding a scaling option (and the Doubling of a range or duration from a casting roll is NOT a scaling, is is a doubling of whatever the range of the spell, at the time of casting, was.

Thus, if a spell has a range of 50', then Doubling would make it 100'. If this same spell had its range scaled to be 100', then it is doubled to 200', etc...
