EA 9
« on: October 19, 2008, 04:00:09 PM »
I am a little confused (*sigh* yeah, that does happen every once in a while ;))

Pure caster get 6 base lists and choose another 4 from open and closed realm to count as base... right?

EA9 indicates that the professions get to choose 8 lists from their portfolio...right?

So, does this mean pure casters base lists go from 10 to 8?
Is the trade-off that the new caster professions also count the un-chosen lists as open?

 ???

Thanks!

Normal Pure casters get 6 and get to select 4.

The 3 new Pures from EA9 get to select 8 from their Folio (and Open & Closed) Lists. They do not get to select any additional Base Lists beyond those 8. And IIRC, yes, they do get to learn unselected Folio Lists as Open Spell Lists (This also applies to other spell casters who have to select their Base Lists from those such as the Revised Ranger -- the "as Open lists" refers mainly to the level that a character may learn a list to - remember, only Base Lists may be learned above 20th level).

Could the ideas of Folios and Orders be applied to RMFRP?
Would they work?

I don't see why not...

Cool! I just thought there may be some issue(s) that weren't obvious to me that would preclude their use...

Thanks!

Kinda confused as well. We established that a mage gets 8 base lists which are chosen from open/closed realm and their folio.

But it says pick 15 lists from the Master Mage List. Is this "just" the folio from which they chose or are these 15 their base?

Does folio replace realm so that a mage isn?t Essence but [name of Folio]?

Mage gets to select 8 lists from the Open Lists, Closed Lists, and his Folio Spell Lists (up to 15 lists).

What you are doing is confusing 2 DIFFERENT steps in the process....

1) The GM creates the Folio by selecting up to 15 lists (from the Master Mage List). That Folio would work best when associated with a guild or organization. Often times, the nature of the organization will dictate which lists will best fit the Folio.

2) The Player selects from the Folio (and Open/Closed lists from his realm) those spell lists which will be his Base Lists.

Folios do NOT replace realms!! They replace the predetermined Base Lists for a profession.

Ah, that makes sense ;D

Regarding Mage Staff from the same EA. Are Magebolt (and its versions) cast as any other spell (preperation rounds, PP cost, etc)?

Yes, none of the spells on that list have special casting times.

The only special thing about the Magebolt spells is that they come from the staff when cast.

This bonus to spell casting does not apply when casting other magestaff spells that increase the power of the magestaff.

Am I correct in assuming this only applies to the Magestaff spells right?

Correct. The spells that increase the power of the magestaff (i.e. Lesser Magestaff, Greater Magestaff, etc..) do not receive the bonus that they apply to the staff.
