Combat Companion and RMSS ???
« on: July 19, 2008, 08:11:56 AM »
My mouse is currently hovering over the "add to cart" button for this item, but I just wanted to get some idea of how well it works with RMSS from anyone who has it.

Any comments on the "Armor by piece" Rules?
How do they affect or interact with the move in armor skills (if at all)?

How do the new attack and critical tables compare with the 'old' ones?
Could they be used to replace the "old" tables?

Anything else that makes it a 'must have'?

 ???   :book2:   ;D

Just remember that my comments are biased...  :D

The maneuver penalties from the ABtP system are smaller than those from the original armors. CC recommends that you use a more standard progression (i.e. 5/2/1/0.5). There are also guidelines for changing from multiple Armor skills to a single armor skill as well.

The ABtP system only gives you 10 AR numbers (AR = Armor Ratings), and there is also a table that allows you to convert standard RM AT to the AR system.

The Combat System presented is a Condensed system. Yes, they can be used to replace the current system, but there are not as many results (i.e. Crit tables -- which are not your standard crit types, but are weapon type specific) are a single column, and you adjust for severity (some of the Combat Style Maneuvers also allow for adjusting criticals as well...  ;D)

Anything else that makes it a 'must have'?

IMO, the Combat Styles themselves. Even if you decide to not use the ABtP or new combat tables, the styles can be fully used with the current Arms Law, and can add lots of excitement to the game.

I also tink that the combat styles can add a lot to a RMSS game and should work well. Also I think the GM should make most of the styles for his game so as to fit in with the GM's setting flavor.

Rule #0: A GM has the right to change any rule in a book to fit their game.
Role Play not Roll Play.
Use a System to tell the story do not let the system play you.

Ok, I've got the PDF and, so far, so very good.
