Martial Arts Companion question
« on: June 05, 2008, 08:31:39 PM »
A lot of my RMSS books have taken a beating over the years especially, despite its general lack of use, the Martial Arts Companion which has been particularly hard hit.  The binding has partially disolved and the pages are pulling apart at the perforations (the last is a common problem with many of my RMSS books; perforations that stopped halfway down the page or ran through the hole puches etc.).

I've been trying to decide what, if anything, I want to use from there for my homebrew world but I have two concerns: 1)  Further touching of the book will lead to total disintegration and 2)  I seem to recall some comments that the book was considered overpowered.

If the latter is true could someone hit the high points about what the issues are for me?  Or is there nothing wrong with it and I'm remembering incorrectly?  Many of the threads that I got from searching only mentioned the book in passing though I admit I just didn't have time to go through them all.

What are people's opinions of this book?  Thanks.

I like it, very much.  It's a wonderful book, and I'll replace it if I had to.  What was over powered was clearly marked.  I believe it was the Chi Powers that were considered to be Fantastic.

The book is excellent.  It may take a few read throughs to figure out how styles work but in the end they are much simpler than the different degrees.

Matter of opinion no the chi powers being over powered as the big ones are restricted skills as are advanced, i.e. cooler, styles.  You can still end up with a DP sink but at least you can have some neat abilities to show for it.
Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.    Buddha

I just got it about 6 months ago, and I think it is great. I wouldn't do without it again.

I think the Martial Arts Companion and Channeling Companion are the two best supplements ICE ever made.

Third is Rolemaster Companion I.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

Yes, the Rolemaster Companion is a very invaluable resource.
