Venom Blade
« on: March 21, 2008, 04:38:28 PM »
The spell states that the weapon is coated in magical poison.
Would the magical poison also affect creatures like demons which are immune to poison??

Maybe I should have specified that M:afg states that demons are immune to mortal poisons. By which I gather it is meant that they are immune to poisons from the mortal plane.

Venom blade clearly states that it coats the blade in a magical posion.

So are demons affected by magical poisons??
And what about other creatures who are immune to normal poisons, would they be affected by magical poisons?

If the text states that they are immune to mortal poisons then I would say that they are very well affected by the magical one(s), (s) as there also other magical poisons not only the one from this spell.

I would say that it has to be stated clearly: immune to poison means immune to all poisons, immune to mortal poisons means affected by magical poisons and immune to magic means unaffected also by magical poison but suspectible to mundane poisons. IMHO.

M:AFG was written before the Codex, so it couldn't take it into account (but "mortal poison" is something I think means "poison from the mortal plane (as opposed to the demonic plane), and it does not consider whether or not it is magical". The spells in the Codex, however, were not thinking about M:AFG when they were being written.

IMO, it is up to the individual GM to determine how it works in his setting.

It also depends on if you interpret it as a magical poison or a mundane poison magically created.
Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.    Buddha

I would consider Dragon Blood (don't remember the name in core book) to be "magical".

Or, perhaps, a certain clerical order or magicians cabal might have "magically" created poisons to use against those very creatures. Expensive and/or exclusive is how I would rule those...

Reading the entry of Demonkind, I would rule that any natural poison occurring in the primary gaming realm would not affect a Demonic being.  So an assassins poison would be no use, however, Venom Blade, magically enchanted alchemical poison and poison from outside the realm (even another demons poison) would work.  I agree with Right Wing Wacko though about Dragons.  Primarily due to their magical nature.
