Talsilanta setting
« on: February 13, 2008, 02:44:30 AM »
Hello everyone. Long time lurker but first time poster.
Love HARP and RM (since the blue box) and great forum, this.

I was perusing over an old copy of Talislanta (3rd ed) and it occured to me that with the help of CoM and Codex, amongst other things, one could create a fantastic marraige of setting and system. I love the originality of Talislanta and, as a setting, it's very good value for money. The system (omni) is a little thin on the ground for those who like a little crunch, though.

So I thought of using HARP.

A Cymrillian Mage or Theurge on a quest for High Magic (CoM) and the cantrips could really shine!

A Cymrilian Swordmage (Warrior Mage)

A Trapmage class using Trap runes along with subterfuge skills

Thrall Warrior with the piece armour and lots of martial Law stuff

Muse bards using song foci

And as for sat conversions

Will=Self Discipline?
Perception=Intuition?
Charisma=Presence?
Speed=Quickness?

etc

And for the uninitiated a collection prepared "archetypes" that would launch a campaign superquick.

Any thoughts?

I am a big Tal fan from way back. I'd need to know more about how the latest version of HARP works before I could comment with any great detail, but what you have so far seems good.

I am awaiting my HARP stuff, so when I get it I can add more details.

Hey there,

I loved Talislanta in theory, but found it a bit difficult in practice. Like Forgotten Realms, it was very hard to have a free form game without someone saying 'Oh, you can't place your adventure there, that's where the Black Seers are'.
Talislanta sure had A LOT of cultures, but I thought it was great, all-in-all.

"Talsilanta" sounds kinda funny to finnish ear, as "talsi" means "he/she walked" and "lanta" means "manure":D Just as sidenote:D
If any spell can be made into potion, how does fireball potion work when someone drinks it?:D

All I know about the setting, from reading old Dragon Magazines is...

"No Elves."

hehe.  I think I have the right setting anyway.

Yeah, 'The game with no Elves...',yet 95% of the 'Human' variants have pointed ears.

Note that the Subject is mis-spelled. It's Talislanta, nothing else.

Great setting, I love it.
