Empire Galactique Armor and Materials in RMU Terms
« on: May 22, 2023, 04:10:10 PM »
I'm working to translate my Empire Galactique (EG) campaign into RMU terms. Does this translation chart appear correct. I had to move some things around because of the reduced AT values in RMU as compared to previous versions of RM.

* RMU AT ** EG ARMOR VALUE ** EG CLOTHING ** EG MATERIALS *
21thick clothes---
31------
41soft leather---
52furTerracotta
63thick leatherEnamel
74.5armor, helmet---
86chainmailsoft wood
99metallic cuirass, bulletproof vesthard wood
1012armor, Combination Suit armored, Combination Suit antilasercrumbly stone
11?18Combination Suit antigravhard stone
12?24---soft metal
13?36---hard metal
14?48------

A Combination Suit armored is a basic armored suit. A Combination Suit antilaser is the same but with antilaser properties. A Combination Suit antigrav is the same as all previous suits but now with antigrav properties.

I would probably move fur down. "armor, helmet" is pretty vague. For superior high tech armor, it might be appropriate to use the armor with similar flexibility but give a DB bonus, decrease the attack size, or have a chance of negating criticals. Armor piercing attacks could then negate those various bonuses. That could remove the need for ATs above 10.

I think I like the idea of all the combination suits being AT 10, but with DB bonus's for the antilaser and antigrav. I am going back over the armor sections of EG, but I think RMU covers everything up through Nominal Technologies 2 (Pre-Industrial era), without having to add anything.

For materials I was thinking of the Castles & Ruins Book for comparisons and came up with:

Castles & Ruins Book

W/D = Wattle and daub construction (AT 5)
Wood/Thatch = Wooden structure/thatch roof (AT 9)
Wood/Wood = Wooden structure/wood roof (AT 9)
(For soft woods, use AT 8)
Brick/Wood = Brick structure/wooden roof (AT 13)
Brick/Shingled = Brick structure/ceramic shingle roof (AT 13)
Stone/Wood = Stone structure/Wooden roof (AT 14)
Stone/Shingled = Stone structure/stone roof (AT 14)

RMU conversions (divide by 2 and think about rounding)

W/D = Wattle and daub construction (AT 3)
Wood/Thatch = Wooden structure/thatch roof (AT 5)
Wood/Wood = Wooden structure/wood roof (AT 5)
(For soft woods, use AT 4)
Brick/Wood = Brick structure/wooden roof (AT 6)
Brick/Shingled = Brick structure/ceramic shingle roof (AT 6)
Stone/Wood = Stone structure/Wooden roof (AT 7)
Stone/Shingled = Stone structure/stone roof (AT 7)

This is helping me in my other quest regarding chariots, carts, and wagons. I think chariots and carts might be AT 4 soft wood, while wagons would be AT 5 ( because they have to carry cargo and need to be sturdy).

AT 6 seems the most appropriate for structures (large rigid pieces), but I think vehicular combat is going to need fresh rules and some new armor types. Unless you're running around in mechs, the armoring needs and inherent vulnerabilities of vehicles are going to substantially differ from those of living creatures.

Material should largely serve to provide modifiers.
