I'm waiting for a half dozen Shadow World books to find their way to my mailbox.  One of the books is Emer I.  I've been offered a trade of the Emer box set.  If I have Emer I is it worth trading for the box set?  What are the differences?  What will I really be missing if I don't have it?

The Emer box set is basically an overview of the entire continent, IIRC.

Emer I, however, is a lot more in-depth, but only for about 1/4 of the continent.

As Rasyr said, the Emer box is a book that briefly describes all areas of Emer.  Emer I covers the Northwest in more detail, and Emer II covers the Northeast.    I find the original Emer book useful because it at least describes the southern part of the continent which is unavailable elsewhere.

I don't recall what else comes in the Emer box though...anyone?

It contains also the Atlas Addendum and a few colour maps (Emer & some cities)

That's what I thought.  So, you still think it's worthwhile to get the boxed set, knowing that the next purchase will likely be Emer II?

There's stuff in the main book on Uj, Onar, Kum-kaan and Rael that isn't available anywhere else as yet. Also, in the Atlas Addendum, there's a fair bit on Artifacts, Lost Technology and Places of Power that also isn't really covered elsewhere. Maybe 20-25% of the contents all told.

The boxed set was the first printing of the "demon familly tree", which to my mind has some significant nostalgic value.....he he he
