Shadow World: Xa'ar
« on: December 01, 2006, 08:03:50 PM »
I always find it useful when doing background in some fantasy region to compare it to a place on our earth. I made a PDF of a map of Greece next to Xa'ar and Saralis on approximately the same scale. Something to keep in mind for the upcoming info...

If there is interest, I'll post my progress...

oh, interesting it gives a good idea of the size of Xa'ar and Saralis ( and Jaiman, as we can extrapolate from there )

I like that, now I need all the info you can give us about Saralis and Xaar, pleassssseeeee  ;D

I remember when I was reading Emer 1 that Haestra has the size of France+Italy+Spain, it was clear for me that Emer is quite big.

Still working on it. It keeps growing. It looks like it could be well over 48 pages with the charts and layouts and maps... Gah!

Gah!

If by "Gah!" you mean "Great!", the I agree!

I (and am sure many others on this forum) want as much SW stuff as you can generate! ;)

Thanks for all your efforts,

I just wanted to keep you SW fans updated. I have not been idle the last several weeks... I just turned in an adventure for the second issue of the Guild Adventurer, something a little different from the usual fare. This also provides a peek into the larger book I've been working on for some time, which I'm back into for a bit before probably spinning off another adventure for the GA#3...

Terry,

so when is the Second edition of the Guild Adventurer going to be out. I cannot wait.

I have to produce RMSS/FRP stats for Terry's adventure Rose Petals and Snow Lions, and Terry has to send me one more map. Then I'll be sending it for layout and we'll be kicking off the ransom for TGA#2.

Best wishes,
Nicholas

Hmmm.... comparisons between real world locations and those of fantasy to give players and GM's alike more of an idea/perspective....yep that sounds familiar  :)

I always take the descriptions of cultures and do a similar thing, giving my players (all of them history buffs like myself) comparisons such as -

  • Miir - 11th century France, feudal baronies without a surviving royal family to unite them since Stroane's armies withdrew.
  • Stroane - 13th century England, ex-monarchy which dominated Haestra in recent years but who's empire has now collapsed as the realm is currently falling into civil war since the royal family has died/gone missing.
  • Sel-Kai - 15th century Venice, an oligarchy ruled by a Prince.

This gives them a good grounding on what to expect and the arms and armour likely to be available/encountered.

Xa-ar update:

The content is done except to do stats for the adventures, and some tweaking of the timeline (yes I do love my timelines, but since so much is going on in Jaiman around this time, I keep finding things that need to jibe with things that have been mentioned earlier. Plus I find things that need to be consistent with what's going on in Shadowstone Chronicles, so I bounce back over there and make some notes... Gah.

Although my game is currently based on Emer, I always need more TKA's writings.

Thanks
