Merging distance
« on: March 22, 2021, 11:25:50 AM »
The various Merging spells (e.g. Merging Organic) permit you to enter material but you cannot move through "more than the caster's own body size plus two feet of material" in RMSS and RMU, or "(body +1' depth)" in RM2.

How do people interpret "own body size" here? Is that the width of the caster's body, or their height?

I had always thought this meant the width of the caster's body.

Same with width, but I just assumed. Does that make the spell better the fatter your character is?

Now I'm curious what happens if you lie down with your head towards the wall and attempt to merge in.

I just assumed it depended on which direction you're moving in. Are you just walking into a big tree? Then width of body +1'. But if you're standing atop a giant, felled tree, then I assumed you could sink down into it while remaining standing up, like in an elevator. Then you would sink the entire height of your body (say 6') plus an additional foot.
