I'll be a tad quiet until the end of January 2014
« on: October 01, 2013, 05:48:13 AM »
Why will I be a tad quiet? I've been asked to write a critical piece on James Elroy Flecker, for a literary magazine, and the end of January is my deadline. It means putting aside (for the moment) both my bibliographies and my work on a paper about the poetry of Ernest Dowson, but hey: it's a commission, and almost a dead cert of another publication credit.

Coming up next year, I want to finish the Dowson essay, as well as write a second article about William Hope Hodgson for Sargasso. And I want to try and find the time to settle down and write "Death in the Poetry of H. P. Lovecraft" as well as at least one piece on the poetry of Christopher Brennan.

Thank you, Thom. As you know, poetry is my "day job" -- and with it comes writing about poetry, compiling concordances, & bibliographies, writing criticism, etcetera.

update

I've just finished the first draft of the Flecker paper. So that's the good news. The bad news? I've been commissioned to write more papers, on other authors and topics.

:)

A long-delayed update:

I had to rewrite the Flecker paper, and had been given a deadline of the end of this month; I've just finished the rough draft and am sitting on it for a week before revising and submitting the new paper.

One of the other papers, a piece on the poetry of J. Sheridan Le Fanu, has reached a polished draft, and that has been submitted; I finished that on the weekend, and drafted the Flecker paper yesterday and this morning (it is almost midday here).

Now I have to write a paper on a theme shared by a major poem & two novels by William Hope Hodgson, my third piece for commission. And that's on top of the writing I have to do for the Guild Companion! Eek!

No rest for the wicked they say: I must be bloody evil.... :)
