Blood Magic and daily item "casting time" (activation time)
« on: August 04, 2009, 06:32:19 AM »
Have been wondering about the time it takes to activate a Blood Magic talent or a daily item. I think I read somewhere in the core rules, that activating a magic item takes 1 round.
But what about blood magic?

Specifically I see 4 possibilities for either blood magic or magic items:
1. Ability activates as an instantaneous spell
2. Ability activates at initiative point
3. Ability activates at end of round
4. Ability activates as an instantaneous spell if the spell mirrored with the talent/item is instantaneous, at initiative point otherwise

As I remember it, 1) is more or less the way RM handled it (but that was with 10 second rounds).
I see 4) as the most balanced way to handle it, maintaining usefulness of the spell effect, whilst not making blood magic/magic items too powerful compared to ordinary spell casting.

I would go with #4

Thanks for the reply :)

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more logical it would be to go with #4. I think it was just my rolemaster days leading me astray for a moment there...
