Filtering out junk
« on: January 27, 2021, 10:19:23 PM »
I see that SMF has a bunch of add-ons for blocking spam.

https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Spam_-_my_forum_is_flooded_with_spam,_what_can_I_do
and
https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=3851

seem to have a lot of promising tools to at least cut the volume. Might be worth looking into.

Yes, please remove this crap automatically. When I am seeing a few of these obvious spam postings, it's fine for me to delete them by hand. But I'm not willing to do this for a dozen or more postings every day, as has often been the case during the last days when I logged in.

Ecthelion,
Thank God it is not the old days when there were serial spam and porn images occurring with regularity.
But still it is and can be very annoying for Mod and poster.
I can also say that I still get porn and spam from my days as an ICE Mod on a personal email account.

I've turned on email activation for new user registrations. It's a minor inconvenience for humans, but hopefully a major impediment for bot spam.
Just a devops type who sometimes writes RPGs.

PS: The new ICE logo is cool!
'Last of all, Húrin stood alone. Then he cast aside his shield, and wielded an axe two-handed'. --J.R.R. Tolkien

'Every party needs at least one insane person.'  --Aspen of the Jade Isle
