[Haalkitaine/Rhakhhan] Question about the Avanir family
« on: December 16, 2018, 07:33:59 AM »
I have questions for Terry about the Avanir ducal family (from the Haalkitaine book) and an apparent inconsistency in the book :
- in the chronology (Haalkitaine book p23, 6028 TEI), it is stated "birth of Kalen Avanir, son of Duke Elrad and Irisa Avanir". Yet, in the nobility section (Haalkitaine book p46, Duchy of Prevan), Elrad's wife is listed as "Isil Irellion Avanir". Is it Isil or Iris ? Or is Kalen an illegitimate child ?
- Still in the chronology (same page) it is stated in 5970 TEI "birth of erlin twins Irina and Irisa on the isle of Veriadar", then in 6031 "Irina of Veriadar (now living in Prevan under the care of her sister) awakens...". In p47, it is stated that "Kalen has spent the last few years travelling across Jaiman and beyond, accompanied by his cousin, the squire Jad Hurok" - Jad Hurok being the name of Irina's son. Which means that Kalen's mother is indeed Irisa Avanir, an elf from Urulan.
How come there is no mention in the Avanir family description that Elrad's wife is an elf - given the long and checkered history of Rhakhaan with the elves, especially the elves of Urulan, and their view of elves in general ? Or is Irisa hiding her elven nature to the public (and "Isil" would be her human facade) - but what about Kalen, who would be a first-generation half-elf (not to mention that Jad Hurok would be a full elf - Half Erlin and Half Dyar, granted, but still fully immortal with pointy ears).
