Combat Companion vs Arms Law
« on: July 05, 2010, 04:05:53 PM »
Now that many people are more comfortable with the CC rules, I thought we could discuss some of the pros and cons of using this companion. I will start by focusing on the attack tables. I am not too concerned about the combat styles right now, but feel free to comment on these as well. In my opinion these are the pros of the CC attack tables:
-AT1 is not too strong relative to other armor types.
-Attack tables and crit tables on same page.
-Fumble range is not unmodified (I think this is more logical as expert fighters should fumble less)
Cons (relative to AL):
-Attacks versus different kinds of armor follow linear formula (AL is a bit more interesting here)
-Although there are more pages of tables to flip through in AL, the CC tables contain more complicating factors to remember such as maximum damage for weapon types, and bonuses (or penalities) for different kinds of weapons on the same table. In AL, you can pretty much just roll and look up the result. This actually slowed down the combat somewhat, in my experience.
