2ndary Stats People use
« on: August 04, 2009, 04:58:29 PM »
Are there any other 2ndary stats that people use besides the following? Willpower, Appearance, Fate points, Faith Points, Life points and Corruption points.

Thanks

Will, Alignment & Fate Points(a duality)

Will is the sum of the characters magic Stats IN,PR,EM, RE, &SD This is for item contests etc...racial bonuses apply but it cannot be developed

Alignment is a points based sum system (pretty informal) that I add and subtract from based on good & bad stuff.  Corruption points lower it, Feats increase it.  Feats are things that you do/accomplish in accordance to your alignment.  When you build up enough of these, you can purchase a fate point.

Fate points are pretty standard

We only use Will and Alignment, 1st needed for intelligent item confrontation, and the 2nd for many reason, but modified from the original.

About alignment, we don't use the horrible rules presented in some books, based on deprecated and false conjectures (presented in a not very good MERP book really). In books it is based only in spell failure...what!?, it uses the idea Saruman was changed to evil because the use of magic, and that is totally untrue, the reason was the connection with Sauron (specialist in fool others) by the palantir, so the reason was influence not magic.

We use a 100 based scale with corruption points for alignment, so are your actions and not your pencil what decides your real alignment. You can start with the points you want (based on your background too), but with your actions you can add or substract points.
1-25: good; 26-75 neutral (the more typical); 76-100: evil.

Alignment can be used for many purposes, item will confrontation (if item is other alignment than yours), lose power if enter in a certain shrine (depends on god alignment and yours), detections, etc.

Dark Schneider;
Thanks for the reply I am making a new spreed sheet to place races in and I wanted to know what is out there and if I missed any that people use a lot.

I do not use Alignment as a 2ndary stat myself but I do try and use it in the game and it can have consequences for the PC's in specific situations.

I forgot Insanity Points and I think I will add CIRS points for cybernetics also.

Again, I thought CIRS definitely had a place in the world... but maybe not what the game intended.
I also used "Therapy" to reduce CIRS. Having Realskin could reduce it, depression medication, etc.
IMHO, it is entirely a "Social Class" stat. If someone has an entire face tattoo, some places will likely shun them while to others it will be a social norm.

For all of the obvious tech, the society of ~2100 must have been Puritanical. Maybe the tech came from space colonies...

As a game mechanic, it's no different from armor hampering Essence (but not Mentalism...) :)
